Cooksville is a vibrant patchwork of colors and styles. The heart of the community is the historic schoolhouse on the village green, originally built in 1886, and home now to the Cooksville Community Center. The building served as a school for the community for over 75 years. In 1962, the school board was in the process of selling the schoolhouse when the Cooksville Community Center, Inc. was organized to save the historic building. The mission of the Cooksville Community Center is to preserve our historic building and develop a place whre new people can find a way in; where longer tenured residents get to know each other; a place where everyone is welcome and can come and mix or just come and look; where we can find neighbors with similar interests, where people can find out what work, skills, interests and needs there are among us and be useful to one another in these; and where we can make connections with neighbors in joint projects and recreational activities; a place where children and adults find common enjoyment, a place where in serious trouble or community crisis we have a staging area for meeting the crisis together, and where we learn of history, needs, problems, and ways of enhancing community life. Cooksville Community Center, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer-run organization (Charity ID 39-1334106). |
