Cooksville is a vibrant patchwork of colors and styles. The heart of the community is the historic schoolhouse on the village green, originally built in 1886, and home now to the Cooksville Community Center. The building served as a school for the community for over 75 years. In 1962, the school board was in the process of selling the schoolhouse when the Cooksville Community Center, Inc. was organized to save the historic building. Since then, the Cooksville Community Center board has worked to preserve and maintain the schoolhouse, as well as return it to a center of activity for the community. Social, historical and educational events are conducted throughout the year in the schoolhouse including holiday celebrations, summer softball games, workshops and lectures. |
